Full of enthusiasm after the Christmas/New Year break with full squad in tow apart from Darren the game got off to a good start. The first half was evenly matched to start with, although the opposition did have majority of possession. The Oakers played well and were full of 'fighting' spirit unfortunately though they went 2-0 down at half time.
Colin as usual made some great saves and at one point managed to stop a goal with his big toe, he also managed to dislodge the goalpost and delay the game for a while - nice one!
The second half showed that 'Twinkle Toes Peters' had a softer side to his nature when he grabbed one of the oppositions buttocks.. The player complained to the ref at which point 'Twinkle Toes' retorted with 'you put it in my hand and I'll squeeze it' - lucky he wasn't facing the other way!
Towards the end of the game tiredness again crept in and within the last 2 minutes The Oakers unfortunately shipped in another 4 goals, making the final score an undeserved 6-0 to Ditton.
It was a tough game with lots of fouls (from both sides, tut tut) Well done Boys!!!

Thursday 4th December 2008 (9pm) Flair Play v Sherwood Oak
Another cup game and there were some high hopes that after the previous week's dismal defeat, that the Oakers would possibly triumph, or at least manage a draw. After all, the previous cup games had seen the team narrowly defeated. How hard could it be?
Very apparently. In a game that was too depressingly bad to even talk about in detail the Oakers, whose performance could be called dismal at best, were thoroughly trounced by the opposing team. Granted they were another top of the league team, but still...
So the final score was 6-1 to Flair Play, leaving the players with some hard training to do.
Next game: Thursday 18th December 2008 at 8.23pm against S.G.R.B.

Thursday 27th November 2008 (9.40pm) - MEMS Power Gen v Sherwood Oak
For the Oakers this was an incredibly tough game against the considerably younger, top of the division team and the opponent’s youth and class showed from the moment the game started. With precision and ease MEMS had scored 6 goals by half time, although the Oakers did manage to pull one back with a nice shot from Asda Dave.
A hard slog by the Oakers and some brilliant goalkeeping by Darren saw the super fit MEMS kept to 9 goals, apparently a disappointment for them and a lesson in hard play for the Oakers as the score didn’t reflect the hard work they had put in.
Man of the match to my mind was definitely Darren without whose brilliant goalkeeping the score could have easily have been WELL into double figures, although all the Oakers played well given the strenuousness of the match.
Final score – 9-1 to MEMS Power Gen

Thursday 20th November 2008 (8.41pm) - Athletico Beer Barrel v Sherwood Oak
Today's game saw the Oakers play in a fast paced game against Athletico Beer Barrel with a full complement of 7 players which consisted of the safe pair of hands Darren in goal, outfield lads were Steve, Ken, Terry, Chris, Bob and Dave.
It was a game of few chances and the referee seemed to slow down the flow of the game but sadly for the second week in succession the Oakers were defeated by a single goal, the goal coming in the first half of play.
Once again the Oakers held their own and team spirit was evident again so a victory before Christmas could be on the cards. The next game sees the Oakers play Maidstone MEMS Power Gen who took the place of Maidstone Allstars and the following week sees the Oakers back on cup duty against Flair Play.
Final Score 1-0 to Athletico Beer Barrel.
Next game: Thursday 27th November 2008 at 9.35pm against MEMS Power Gen

Thursday 13th November 2008 (8.23pm) - Ten Left Feet v Sherwood Oak
The game began well enough with the optimistic Oakers playing well against the younger opposition.
A silly mistake caused the opposing team to score which left the Oakers a little frustrated. Shortly after Ten Left Feet scored another, although fine work by the team stopped them from gaining further ground.
Early into the second half Steve the chef scored an excellent goal which was later followed by an excellent penalty by Asda Dave. Unfortunately by then the opposition had managed to sneak in another goal and the final, rather disappointing score was 3-2 to Ten Left Feet.
However it was a good performance from the Oakers and something to build on for the future.

Thursday 6th November 2008 (8.05pm) - Bridgewood v Sherwood Oak
Okay sorry for the delay in posting - I've been ill and so our guest reporter Nicky P provided the match report.
First half :Took lead from good work by Perry Mason whose drive and energy were outstanding (ubiquitous)Bob Scott (of the Antarctic) showed good touches and linked the Oakers play up well.
2 soft goals late in first half gave opposition (Bridgewood) an undeserved half-time lead.
Second half:Due to plague and pestilence Oakers had only one sub and even he was ill. Came on for second half with Oxygen tank and mask, IV drip and a team of Doctors in constant attendance and bravely battled through eight minutes of pure agony (lol)
Two early goals gave opponents a comfortable lead but a late second half comeback from the battling Oakers yielded a late goal for Steve (Mary) Peters.
An encouraging performance from a brave and spirited bunch of old men.
Final score: Bridgewood 4 - Sherwood Oak 2

Thursday 30th October 2008 (10.05pm) - Ditton Utd v Sherwood Oak (Cup Game 2)
It looked like a desperate situation with several of the Oakers sidelined by injury leaving the bare minimum of players available for the evening’s match. With the prospect of a tough game against the much younger Ditton Utd, hopes weren’t running high but a steady and determined attitude by the five players made the game a much closer fought battle than it could have been.
The Oakers played well, very well with Steve and Ken taking defence, Bob and Terry taking the forward positions and Steve the chef stepping in at short notice to do a great job in goal. Despite Ditton Utd having many attempts on the goal they managed to keep the opposing team to a 0-0 draw throughout the whole game, even managing a few shots at goal themselves.
Unfortunately a lucky final shot some three seconds before the end of the game gave the opposition an undeserved goal leaving the final score at 1-0 to Ditton Utd, a disappointing and bitter end to a well played game.
